The Peace, Justice and Hunger Commission is co-chaired by Ms. Sheila Sims of Oakland and Ms. Carole Jan Lee of San Francisco.
The Commission meets every other month, alternating their meetings between Oakland, at St. Paul's Church, and San Francisco at the Grace Cathedral dining room. A light supper usually precedes the business meeting.
The Commission works closely with the Episcopal Peace Fellowship, The Fellowship of Reconcilliation the Episcopal Church Center Peace and Justice Office, as well as those groups dealing with hunger.
Members of the Commission have visited and reported on visits to South Africa, Honduras, Nicaragua, Israel, China and Cuba. At their most recent meeting, information on the Bay Area campaign to free Mordechia Vananu was distributed. Members of the Commission also work on other issues such as the death penalty, the prison industrial complex and works closely with the National Equal Justice Association. The Commission has also given grants to the Mulukuku Women's Health Clinic in Nicaragua, the South African Beacon, and other organizations.
